I am Johnson Samuel, from Kerala, India. Having graduated in Microbiology and Psychology, I began my career as an instructor and over the years have trained and coached over a hundred students. I also had the privilege to work as a Relations Executive and also as an Editor, both giving me immense international exposure.
As an IELTS trainer, I offer classes in two modes—regular and crash. Though both the modes cover all the necessary topics, the crash mode will explicitly be exam oriented and of a shorter duration. The regular mode offers more details, guidance, tips and tricks, and practice sessions for an exhaustive study. Here is a gist of what you can expect.
The tricky part of the English language is that there are a lot of accents which make a non-native English speaker confused and sometimes frustrated. Pronunciations too differ across countries. For example, in the British style, ‘r’ in a word is usually silent and hardly pronounced whereas in the US, ‘r’ is almost always audible and emphasized.
Likewise, the choice of vocabulary too differs. Hence, identifying an accent can help the candidate understand words and their meanings as they are spoken, thereby find answers fast.
Ø Scan & skim
Identify the type of the question and which class it falls into. There is a difference between reading to understand the text and reading to locate the answers in the text. Identify which questions require an understanding of the text and which does not. Hey! It is just a matter minutes and the module is done.
Having mentioned the main pointers that I would focus during the course of study, I would encourage all of you to read on topics of contemporary relevance. Maintain eye contact and carry yourself with etiquette. Answer/speak relevantly with clarity.
Ø Sentence structuring
Ø Outline ideas
Ø Draft, organize and revise
Ø Vocabulary, spellings and grammar
As mentioned earlier, read. Pick up topics and practice writing. Let the stagnant ideas in the mind flow out as words. Be cohesive.
Having said this much, I would cordially welcome you to step into this journey confidently. Together we can make this happen. Looking forward to see you soon.
